FAQS ABOUT JEWELRY
What Size?
Petite: 7”
Small: 7 ¼”
Medium: 7 ½”
Large: 7 ¾”
X-Large: 8”
The average size is 7 ¼” to 7 ½”. Bracelets with an adjustable closure allow some room for play. Lengths are listed with each piece.
All of our jewelry is “sized” by length which is measured from end to end, allowing ¼” for clasps. If you’re unsure, loosely wrap a flexible measuring tape just below the wrist bone. Add 1” to this for the total length you need.
Sterling Silver
Sterling is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metal (usually copper). Some countries require sterling silver products to be stamped “.925” as verification so you may see this on the back of some of our sterling silver elements.
Fine Silver
Fine Silver is 99.9% pure. Occasionally, we present jewelry featuring handmade fine silver that we created in our workshop. These are usually in the form of a pendant as fine silver is softer than sterling so we avoid making anything thin.
Natural Gemstones
Natural gemstones are a mineral, stone or organic matter which has been created in nature without human intervention. These are then cut and polished for use in jewelry. No two natural gemstones are the same and they can often have small inclusions or imperfections, further proof of it being natural.
Sometimes, natural gemstones are treated to enhance their original appearance. Heating, dyeing and irradiation treatments improve color, clarity and durability in some stones, resulting in beautiful, vibrant stones with their own unique characteristics.
Jewelry Care
Apply lotion, oil, perfume, hairspray, etc. before putting on your jewelry. Remove jewelry before swimming as salt and chlorine can cause damage to some stones and to gold.
We highly recommend storing your sterling silver jewelry in Zip Loc bags to slow down the natural tarnishing process… but do not store pearls this way. Use small bags and store them separately to avoid scratches and place in a closed jewelry box or drawer to keep them away from light.
The safest method of cleaning most jewelry is to use warm water with a mild soap; then rinse in cool water pat dry with a soft cloth. Do not soak jewelry with stones other than diamonds, emeralds, and rubies which are very hard. Use a polishing cloth for the sterling parts of your jewelry. In our shop, we use Hagerty's Dry Silver Polish with a chamois cloth; you can buy this at a Container Store.
